Logon Security and Escalating Lockout Mechanism

Top  Previous  Next

The logon security regime utilizes a structured lock-up mechanism designed to protect the device from unauthorized access through brute-force attempts. This system incorporates escalating grace periods following unsuccessful login attempts to balance security with operational recovery.

Security Access Thresholds and Penalty Phases

The following table outlines the escalating security measures applied during consecutive unsuccessful authentication attempts. Each phase introduces a specific grace period where the device will reject further logon attempts, followed by a final lockout state.

Cumulative Failed Attempts

Penalty Phase / Action

Duration

3

Initial Grace Period

20 Minutes

6

Intermediate Grace Period

60 Minutes

9

Extended Grace Period

24 Hours

12

Device Locked

Permanent (Requires Recovery)

Fault Code Diagnostic Reference

The system utilizes specific system fault codes to communicate the status of the security access regime. These codes distinguish between physical cable connections and remote network access, ensuring precise diagnostics when a lockout occurs.

Access Method

Grace Period Active (Fail)

Device Locked (Lock)

Physical Cable

Fault Code 156

Fault Code 158

Remote Connection

Fault Code 157

Fault Code 159

In all instances, a code 156 or 157 implies that the escalating grace period mechanism is active, requiring a specific wait time before the next logon attempt can be made. A code 158 or 159 indicates that the maximum number of attempts has been exceeded and the device is locked for further attempts.

Recovering a Fully Locked Device

If a device enters the fully locked state, two options are available to restore access:

Programmatic Reset: The password can be cleared from within the application at any time by calling the boardSetPassword() function.

Manufacturer Key: You can request a "clear password key" directly from Logic IO.

How to apply the Clear Password Key:

1.Open the RTCU M2M Studio.

2.Navigate to [Device] → [Maintenance] → [Apply Option Key].

3.Enter the provided key.
