The RTCU Compatibility Manifesto

Top  Previous  Next

To ensure device and application longevity, the RTCU Compatibility Manifesto was formulated over 25 years ago:

"A given Execution Architecture generation must be binary compatible for a minimum of one generation backward, while additionally ensuring full source code compatibility for a minimum of two generations backward."

Practically, this means the NX32 architecture can directly execute binary programs from the X32 generation. Furthermore, applications from the older LARGE architecture can be deployed on NX32 devices simply by recompiling—requiring no source code changes.

This manifesto has been a crucial element in the success of the RTCU concept for over 25 years and remains vital as the platform transitions into the era of the Internet of Things.
